I am committed to protecting your privacy and providing a safe, professional and ethical counselling service. The documents below explain how your personal information is handled and how any concerns or complaints can be raised.

GDPR PRIVACY NOTICE AND DATA PROTECTION STATEMENT

This document explains how your personal information is collected, stored and used during our counselling work together, in accordance with UK data protection legislation.

Corinne Beuzelin is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and complies with the requirements of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

WHAT INFORMATION IS COLLECTED?

In order to provide counselling services, I may collect and store the following information:

• Name
• Date of birth
• Address
• Telephone number
• Email address
• GP details
• Emergency contact details (where applicable)
• Information shared during counselling sessions
• Assessment information
• Counselling session notes
• Correspondence relating to appointments and counselling services

Some of the information collected is considered Special Category Data because it relates to your health, wellbeing and personal circumstances.

WHY IS THIS INFORMATION COLLECTED?

Your personal information is collected and processed for the purpose of:

• Providing counselling services
• Maintaining accurate client records
• Managing appointments and communications
• Ensuring client safety and wellbeing
• Meeting professional, ethical and legal obligations

SUPERVISION

As part of my professional practice, I undertake regular Clinical Supervision in accordance with professional standards and ethical requirements.

Information discussed in supervision is anonymised wherever possible and no identifying information is routinely shared. Both myself and my Clinical Supervisor are bound by professional and ethical obligations of confidentiality.

CLINICAL WILL

In the event of my death or incapacity, I have a Clinical Will in place.

My Clinical Executor would have access only to the minimum information required to contact clients and inform them of the situation. They would not have access to counselling session notes.

CONFIDENTIALITY AND INFORMATION SHARING

Everything discussed within counselling is treated as confidential.

However, information may be shared without your consent in the following circumstances:

• There is a serious and immediate risk of harm to yourself or another person.
• There is a legal requirement to disclose information.
• A court orders disclosure of information.
• Information is required under legislation relating to terrorism, money laundering, safeguarding or other legal obligations.

Where possible, I will discuss any need to share information with you before doing so.

HOW YOUR INFORMATION IS STORED

Client records are stored securely using password-protected and secure systems.

Reasonable steps are taken to protect your information from unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration or loss.

Electronic communications, including email and text messages, are used for administrative purposes such as arranging appointments. While every effort is made to protect information, email and text messaging cannot be guaranteed to be completely secure.

RETENTION OF RECORDS

Contact Information

Your name, contact details and administrative records will normally be deleted one month after counselling ends unless there is a legitimate reason to retain them for longer.

Counselling Records

Counselling notes and records will normally be retained for five years following the end of therapy, after which they will be securely destroyed unless there is a professional, legal or safeguarding reason to retain them for longer.

Mobile Phone Information

Telephone numbers, emails, text messages and voicemail messages held on my mobile phone will be deleted when no longer required and normally within one month of counselling ending.

YOUR RIGHTS

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

• Request access to your personal information.
• Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
• Request deletion of information where applicable.
• Request restriction of processing in certain circumstances.
• Object to processing in certain circumstances.
• Request information about how your data is being used.

Please note that there may be legal, ethical or professional reasons why some information cannot be deleted immediately.

DATA PROTECTION COMPLAINTS

If you have any questions or concerns regarding how your personal information is stored or used, please raise these with me in the first instance.

Data protection concerns will be acknowledged and responded to as promptly as possible.

COMPLAINTS AND COMPLIMENTS POLICY

Corinne Beuzelin Autism Counselling

As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I am committed to providing a professional, ethical and respectful service to all clients.

I welcome feedback, concerns and complaints as they help maintain high standards of practice and improve services.

CONCERNS AND COMPLAINTS

A concern is an expression of worry, uncertainty or dissatisfaction that may be resolved through discussion.

A complaint is a formal expression of dissatisfaction about the service provided or an action that has been taken or not taken.

Where possible, I encourage clients to raise concerns directly with me in the first instance. Many difficulties can be resolved through open discussion within the counselling relationship.

HOW TO MAKE A COMPLAINT

If you are dissatisfied with any aspect of the service, you may make a complaint by email or in writing.

Upon receiving a complaint, I will:

• Acknowledge receipt of the complaint within 14 days.
• Consider the concerns raised carefully and fairly.
• Respond in writing as soon as reasonably possible.
• Inform you of any actions that may be taken to address the matter.

If you remain dissatisfied after attempting to resolve the matter with me, you may make a formal complaint to the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

COMPLAINTS TO THE BACP

The BACP operates a Professional Conduct Procedure for complaints relating to the professional conduct of BACP members.
